Světlý Ležák is a clear, golden, bottom-fermented beer in the Czech tradition, made from barley malt and a generous amount of aromatic hops. The clarity and golden colour of the original pilsner, brewed in Pilsen in what is now the Czech Republic, helped make it popular in the 19th century, when beer was generally darker and cloudy. Louvain offers a more pronounced bitterness, with toasted bread notes. It has more character than Saint-Laurent while still easily qualifying as a thirst-quencher. Grain flavours come through with a lightly caramelized touch. The beer finishes dry, with an herbal bitterness lingering on the tongue. A few subtle raisin notes add interest to each sip. Another very fine beer.
