Porter is a type of top-fermented beer originating in England. Consumed since the 18th century, it gave rise to various stouts through the changes Guinness made to it. This type of beer was later produced in Germany in the early 19th century, particularly in Karlsruhe. That version is stronger, at 5.8% alcohol, and closer to a Schwarzbier, with a longer maturation period. However, the different brands sold as Porter do not belong to a truly standardized style. Francesco is a porter with a velvety texture and gentle carbonation. Its flavours sit somewhere between toasted bread, cocoa and coconut. Once again, the balance is very well done. The coconut comes through clearly, but the sweetness is not too pronounced. Coffee and cocoa flavours mingle beautifully with the caramelized notes, making for a delicious dessert without too much heaviness.
