Altbier is a top-fermented beer brewed mainly in the Düsseldorf region of Germany. Ranging from 4.5% to 5% alcohol and copper to brown in colour, it is characterized by a flavour that combines bitterness and sweetness. The name Altbier refers to the age of the traditional brewing method (‘alt’ means ‘old’ in German): top fermentation using caramelized ‘specialty’ malt, which gives the beer its copper colour. Fleury is an amber ale with mahogany highlights and flavours of caramel and toasted bread. The floral bitterness is well balanced with the malt, and the sweetness never dominates. The body is fairly lean and the finish relatively dry. A very enjoyable beer to drink!
