Tasting notes

The fifth beer in the Bières de bois Series—a collaborative barrel-aging project between Avant-Garde and Matera—SEXTE is a Belgian-inspired tripel aged for six months in a foeder and refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces.

On the nose, scents of citrus and caramel are enhanced with a rustic bouquet.

The beer has a beautiful golden colour, with abundant foam that clings nicely to the glass.

On the palate, the texture is very silky and effervescent. Stone fruit flavours come through generously like apricot and peach. The beer also offers us a slight tangy side and citrus flavors like tangerine.

The sweet aspect is well balanced and can remind us of a creamy caramel or even buttery shortbread cookies. In addition, woody and wild notes accompany us throughout the sip and provide a most pleasant tasting experience.

Finally, I perceive a slight astringency which adds to a set of complex and delicious flavors. Definitely, a unique Belgian tripel that I highly recommend!
