The beers in this series vary with the inspiration of the moment. They all share a high alcohol content that allows them to be forgotten for a long while and emerge transformed. Brewed in very small quantities, these beers are carefully nurtured so that each one becomes an experience in itself.
I fell in love when I saw this label and the name of the beer. I immediately took the bottle in my hands and the style spoke to me too! Definitely in my basket! 😉
I allowed myself a more elaborate photographic experiment by having fun with the name of the beer. A long exposure like my evening which continues with this original beer.
The texture is rather light for the style and the beer drinks much lighter than its ABV suggests. Having tasted quite a few barley wines, this one is quite unique, I would say. Firstly, a vegetal side manifests itself subtly and it can remind us of bell pepper… I like it! The caramel flavour is prominent and the cereal side also stands out for its freshness.
The bourbon-barrel influence is much subtler than in other beers of this type and the result is astonishing. Chocolatey flavors and a tart black cherry taste, but never too intense in the sweetness.
The finish is slightly spicy, a little nutmeg here and there, sprinkled reasonably. The flavours fade fairly quickly for a beer of this style. We are left with a bitterness of coffee or roasted beans on the tongue. The tasting experience is pleasant.
It’s really unique and different! It’s a little unsettling at first but you quickly develop a taste for it.
