Though pristine, the beaches of the Islands sometimes hold surprises, such as black sand. Few people know that it is magnetic! The Palabre* tells us that, at times, it may even have caused shipwrecks at night by throwing off the compasses of vessels sailing too close to shore.
This imperial oatmeal black lager was aged for 11 months in a freshly emptied Verger Poméloi apple brandy barrel.
Notes of roast, chocolate and losing your bearings!
The beer pours black with brown highlights and is particularly opaque. A beautiful mocha-colored head forms when poured before quickly fading away.
On the nose, coffee, molasses, and toffee dominate. Roasted aromas and dark chocolate round out this rich and intense bouquet.
On the palate, dark chocolate and coffee take center stage. The beer leans more toward bitterness and roasted flavors than truly sweet notes. A subtle hint of anise adds an interesting nuance.
Compared with the 22e anniversaire grand cru, the apple notes imparted by the Verger Poméloi barrels are more noticeable. Subtle at first, they gradually become more prominent and pair beautifully with the beer’s roasted character.
A very nice beer for those who enjoy intense, bitter, and roasty dark beers.
