Tasting notes

Beer and auteur cinema are two passions that particularly drive me. So when I found out that a beer had been brewed to help the crowd-funding campaign of Tënk, a platform for broadcasting independent documentaries in Quebec, I jumped at the opportunity to talk about it and do a tasting!

Unlike the beer industry, arthouse cinema is going through a difficult period in terms of means of distribution and it is increasingly complicated to be able to view arthouse films (even from Quebec).

I thank Isle de Garde and all those who are involved in this cause! Now, time for the tasting.

Pouring the beer in the sunlight already makes for an inviting sight! The foam is exuberant and generous and the beer displays beautiful orange and golden reflections. The beer is rather opaque although it allows light to pass through well.

The nose is generous with tropical fruits and presents herbaceous aromas.

On the palate, the malt character is subtle (butterscotch, shortbread cookies) but I taste more citrus fruits (orange, lemon, grapefruit). Tropical fruits are also in the spotlight with flavors of passion fruit and mango.

The bitterness is moderate and well balanced with the other flavors. The finish is rather dry and is accompanied by a slightly roasted and herbaceous taste.

Overall, this American IPA drinks just too well, especially in the sun. A superbly balanced and tasty product!
