Tasting notes

I’m a big fan of pepper beers! I loved Dieu du ciel’s La Route des épices so much and I find it such a shame that it is no longer produced (to my knowledge…). My other favorite beer in this largely unexplored niche is the Saison Voatsiperifery by Brouhaha. So when I found out that a microbrewery I love (Vox Populi) was going to produce a pepper beer, I was delighted! So, how does it taste?

The peppery flavors are present but are rather subtle. Honestly, I would have liked a little more pepper. The beer is very well balanced and very fruity (exotic fruits are in the spotlight) with slightly roasted and caramelized malty notes. The bitterness is moderate and enhanced by a little floral side (mixture of pepper and hops). The finish is rather dry and the taste of pepper remains subtly on the palate. It’s very good but… (see above in the text). 😉

Updated (May 23, 2019) : Just to let you know that the Tasmanian Express is back in a version that contains a few more pepperberries! The pepper beer lover in me totally approves of the new recipe! On the mark! Oh how good it is!
