Tasting notes

Prestige series—A strong, full-bodied black beer to which we added raspberries during fermentation, giving it a very fruity, chocolatey flavour.

For 2 or 3 years, I regularly frequented Saint-Houblon on St-Denis Street. I didn’t live with my girlfriend yet, and it became our go-to spot for dinners and impromptu evenings out.

At first, the beer menu mainly featured beers from Brasseurs illimités, then other microbreweries arrived and they finally decided to brew their own beer. I tasted their first brews and many others afterwards… Very good beer!

Even though I have since moved and find myself going there much less often, I was immensely happy to learn that the Saint-Houblon beers were going to be available in cans! And for good reason, I have many pleasant memories associated with this microbrewery!

Initially, 4 products will be available on the shelves: Berliner Weisse Cassis et Framboise, NEIPA Mango Suave, Pause Café Stout and Stout Impérial Framboise Rubus!

Canned beers - Saint-Houblon

Last night, I tasted the Stout Impérial Framboise Rubus.

The color is deep black and the head is the color of café latte. Also, slight reddish reflections appear in the light.

On the nose, we find scents of coffee, dark chocolate and black raspberries.

On the palate, the taste of dark chocolate, coffee and brownie is enhanced by the very fragrant and slightly bitter aspect of black raspberry. The beer is superbly balanced between roasted and fruity flavors. Never too intense, neither in the sweet taste nor in the sour side of the fruit. In addition, the texture, which is rather velvety, lends itself perfectly to this type of beer.

We are left with a slight bitterness of coffee or burnt bread on the palate with a reminder of the raspberry taste.

At no time does alcohol make its presence too felt. It’s very well done!
