Double Hazel Bourbon

Tasting notes

Double Nut Brown Ale with notes of toasted hazelnuts, caramel and mocha, aged for 11 months in bourbon barrels.

I was very excited when I saw that a barrel-aged version of the Double Hazel was coming out on the shelves. I remembered having really liked the original (see my tasting here) and I said to myself that aging in Bourbon barrels would make this brown beer, which looks like a sweet delight, even more exquisite!

After looking, without success, in all my favorite specialized stores, I was disappointed not to be able to get my hands on it… Finally, a big thank you to the Transbroue beer locator for allowing me to find this magnificent beer in a grocery store not too far from us! Shows that treasures are not always hidden where we think…

Now that this dark brown beer with chocolate highlights and beautiful mocha foam is in front of me, I just can’t wait to take a sip. It is so inviting!

The velvety and creamy texture catches my attention first. Subsequently, the flavors of hazelnuts and roasted cereals really come through and confirm that the beer lives up to its name. As hoped, aging in Bourbon barrels brings woody, cherry and vanilla flavors that perfectly complement the chocolate side of the beer.

This brown ale reminds me of a delicious dessert, somewhere between black forest cake and Tiramisu. Although the sweet side of the beer is predominant, the balance and complexity of the flavors always enhance the tasting experience.

It reveals its charms in several layers. To this end, notes of caramel and coffee nicely conclude our sip.

I strongly suggest it!
